National Communication Officer for the largest opposition NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has allegedly accused Madam Jean Mensa the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, that her decision to compile new voters’ register is to fulfil the promise she made to the President before she took office as the Chairperson of the EC.
In an interview with United Television’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion segment, he emphatically stated that “Ghana’s current voters’ register is one of the cleanest and most credible the country has ever had in its history and at large in the world”.
According to the young Communication Officer, it is not true that the NDC does not like the fact that Jean Mensa is the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
“Indeed, the compilation of a new voters’ register for the upcoming general elections was a promise Jean Mensa made to the President before her position was granted her; therefore she needs to fulfil her promise . . . or she faces the consequences it comes with,” he alleged.
Referring to the intended demonstration by the opposition parties who are against the compilation of a new voters’ register, Sammy Gyamfi indicated the turnout for the demonstration held in Tamale makes him understand that their toils for the best will not be in vain.
The National Democratic Congress together with five other political parties on Saturday embarked on a demonstration in Tamale to express their resentment over Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
He added that “this should as well be a wake-up call to Jean Mensa to decide on doing that which is right for the peace of the nation and respect proper stakeholder meetings, which will make her office credible”.
